Send Me On My Way

It's been a momentous two days!  The first weigh in and measurements since joining the program and my Calorie and Cardio Fit Test results.   Where to begin...

On Saturday, I took the Calorie and Cardio fit tests.  The calorie test is a resting test to give me my resting metabolic rate.  The cardio test is a test on a treadmill to determine your true heart rate zones.   The resting test was a breeze.  Relaxed in the dark in a recliner while wearing a mask and had to breathe in and out only through my mouth all while connected to the computer.  I think I aced it.  The Cardio Test, well, it just sucked.  While wearing the same awesome mask and still hooked up to a computer, I had to jog on a treadmill.  It starts at a 0% incline and then every minute or two they increase the incline.   I had to tap out at 8%.  I was wiped, but I did well enough to get my zones.

On Monday, I met with the trainer and we looked at all my data.   Interesting stuff.  I now know how many calories I need to be eating a day and what my true heart rate zones are.

Monday night was a measurement day.  I am proud to say that I have lost five pounds so far and already some inches off my arms and legs.  Unfortunately, my chest got bigger.  I will blame the three sports bras that I was bound into and a little PMS bloat on that craziness...  As Con and I walked out of the gym, I told him this awesome news, not the chest, but the weight loss.  He said he couldn't tell.  I gave him a look.  Then he said, maybe it was because I had my coat on that he couldn't tell.   I am training him well for a future partner.

After Sunday's artichoke disaster, we have been staying pretty normal and boring with our food.  Our green smoothies for breakfast (Avacado, raw eggs, fruit, spinach, and carrot).  Lunch has been the usual cafeteria salad (spinach, hard boiled egg, cottage cheese, olives, and chicken). Monday nights are hectic, Cait has gymnastics and I have my class, so it has to be an easy grab and go dinner.  Chicken wraps for the adults and PB&J for the kids.  Today we had some grilled fish and burned green beans.  Burned green beans because I tried to jazz them up with some garlic and I can't cook, look at Caitlin's website project, and do valentines all at the same time.  We'll call it my multitasking fail. Snacks have been nuts, seeds and a little jerky.   I have also had two girl scout cookies  - damn you girl scouts and your delicious cookies!

I was inspired on the way home by a little song by Rusted Root called Send Me on My Way.  Inspiration to keep positive, have fun, and dance a little even if it's only in the car.

This concludes my second post.  Thank you for reading and your support!

The First Post

This is the first post in a series I'd like to think of as the flip side of  Brent's Healthy Blog.  You won't find any fancy charts and graphs of my journey nor will I be posting my daily weight.  Here you will read about a fat girl's journey to getting fit, the good, the bad and the humorous.

A little bit about me.  I am an awesome mom with two great kiddos. I work in HR and I really like what I do. My architect husband enjoys biking, hiking and all things that torture me.  Truth be told, I hold him back, but he loves me anyway. He's only lost me in the woods once, so I keep slowly following him up the trails, barely breathing.

Brent has registered for some insane bike ride that will either kill him the weekend he turns 40 or be the greatest accomplishment he has done.  With all his training, I felt the need to also eat better and try again on the losing weight thing.   Next thing I know we join a Health Club and they just have to go and make it so easy, so easy, to actually fit working out in to your life.  Childcare center, cafe, spa, rockwall, incredible pool, yoga, oh, and they sold me on this thing called TEAM Weightloss.

Three Weeks Later, I am going to the gym to my class three times a week and learning that almost everything I thought I knew about food was a lie.  A part of TEAM Weightloss is a nutrition class.  So I bring home all sorts of crazy ideas and Brent is lovingly following along.

Breakfast: Mango/berry/spinach/carrot/protein powder shake

Snack:  Nuts and Jerky (Not My and Brent's Nicknames)

Lunch:  Tried a gluten free tortilla wrap with turkey, lettuce etc. - This tasted like ass.  When I said so, Caitlin asked why I had ever tasted butt before.  Good point my daughter, good point.  I ended up unrolling it and putting it in a sun dried and tomato tortilla, I am assuming with gluten.

Workout:  50 minutes on the Treadmill, while Brent and the kids went to the rock wall at the club.  While walking (alive) I Watched an episode of the Walking Dead. It was so good, not the walking, sillies, the show.  It made those last 15 minutes a breeze since the episode was crazy!

Dinner:  Disaster - Attempted Artichokes which required watching YouTube videos to figure out how to prepare, cook and eat.  Note to self, if we have to do all of that it's probably not for us.  Who decided to eat this thorny thing?  I told Brent that I imagine that early man was out of all their other food and desperately grabbed this thorny bulb and ate it.  Conclusion - we are not artichoke eaters.

Keep coming back for my updates.
